The founders and their expertise
Alnewa was founded as a joint venture by the two companies Elex and oxytec. This means that two areas of expertise complement each other:
oxytec is the leading European specialist for air purification systems based on UV and plasma processes. In industrial applications, the energy-intensive thermal post-combustion with fossil gas can be avoided with these so-called “advanced electrified exhaust air solutions”. The savings in energy and CO₂ are enormous: 9 kW of fossil energy are replaced by 1 kW of regenerative electrical energy. CO₂ emissions are reduced by up to 98%.
oxytec has many years of experience with the transformation to fossil-free solutions across numerous industries and processes – such as applications from food production, coating and battery recycling. The company has a long-term partnership with the Swiss university OST and is working with Professor Dr. Andre Heel to further develop plasma technology.
Following inquiries from the cement industry, oxytec decided to work together with Elex AG. The specialist for cleaning waste gas from the cement industry knows the specific requirements of this sector particularly well.
Elex is a specialist in waste gas purification, while oxytec specialises in exhaust air purification. Elex is very good at removing suspended particles from industrial waste gases and can also remove gaseous components in some cases. oxytec is able to remove even the finest contaminants such as germs, odours or household toxins from the air.
Your idea
Plasma technology is so effective because the energy used is extremely concentrated. It works with a fraction of the energy input of conventional air purification processes such as thermal post-combustion.
It therefore made sense to apply it to a core problem of humanity and to use it to break down CO₂. Trials in our test plant have shown that it works.
This is why Alnewa wants to recycle the raw materials contained in carbon dioxide and make them usable for industrial processes.
A particular advantage of this technology is the purity of the reaction products produced, which can be used in various industries. This means that the goal of CO₂ reduction can be achieved more quickly and the plants can be at least partially refinanced.
Strong from the start
Alnewa is a young company with a great idea. The companies behind it contribute their expertise, long-standing customer relationships and resources. This ensures that it is not just an idea.
The founders’ experience with cement production in particular led them to plan the pilot plant in this industrial sector. This is because a particularly large amount of CO₂ is produced – not only from the combustion gases, but also from the fuel.
